My best tip is that I like to get the younger generation involved; not only have I raised my children to respect & love nature, my grandchildren are now avid bird-feeders, and they, 'Grandpa' & I build birdhouses and fill them with seed. We also plant our gardens with plants & flowers that the birds LOVE!
